Local charity Share and Repair uses a bright orange electric cargo bike, affectionately known as “The Flying Satsuma” to deliver items from their Library of Things to local residents around Bath. A Library of Things is a concept which allows people to borrow instead of buy household items which get used infrequently. From camping chairs to steam cleaners they have 700 items available at very cost effective rates. Often Library members struggle to collect the items themselves and so the volunteer riders drop them off within 3 miles of their Lower Bristol Road base.
Keeping the cargo bike well maintained and on the road can be expensive for a small charity and so Share and Repair were delighted when Chris Ferguson from Argo Devops offered to sponsor it for a year. Chris initially discovered Share and Repair through the British Computer Society , as Share and Repair applied for a volunteer with IT skills through their scheme. Chris started volunteering with them and has been integral to helping them to launch their recent project of self service lending lockers at Mulberry Park Hub.
Share and Repair’s Head of Sharing, George Burton said “Chris has been a huge amount of help since he started volunteering with us and we are delighted to be able to formalise our partnership with Argo Devops to support our bike this year.”
Chris Ferguson from Argo Devops said “Getting involved with Share and Repair has been incredibly rewarding. What they do for the local community around Bath is genuinely impactful, and the Flying Satsuma is a brilliant example of practical, sustainable action. At Argo DevOps we’re really pleased to support the bike this year and help keep it on the road delivering real value to local residents.”
