Local charity Share and Repair is fundraising this April to help support their repair operations across Bath and North East Somerset and Wiltshire. Since they started with their first Repair Cafe in 2017 their volunteer repairers have seen nearly 10,000 items; helping save local residents money and keeping household items in use for longer.
Local volunteers across 12 locations work together with their neighbours to offer “pay what you can afford” repairs, preventing tonnes of waste and carbon emissions that would result from both manufacturing new items and disposing of old ones.
Share and Repair’s Founder, Lorna Montgomery, started the charity out of frustration when she couldn’t find a way to get her kettle fixed. Now the volunteers at Share and Repair see a wide range of things from coffee machines to strimmers, ripped jeans to record players. If you can get it to them their volunteers are likely to give repairing it a go!
In the week of their 9th birthday Share and Repair is taking part in the Big Give’s Earth Raise campaign, which pledges to double any donations they receive between 22nd and 29th April. Their aim is to raise £4,000 which would be doubled to £8,000.
To help support their fundraising and as an apt nod to their 9th birthday Share and Repair are hosting some special events during their fundraising week. On 22nd April they are holding an Earth Day Cake Sale in Abbey Square, Bath from 11.30-3. Then on Saturday 25th April they will be selling more cakes alongside a tech amnesty at their Lower Bristol Road Hub. The tech amnesty is in partnership with Donate It, a charity which wipes and rehomes old phones, tablets and laptops, to those who most need them.
Share and Repair’s CEO, Ruth Lambert, said “We are excited to be part of this year’s Big Give campaign. Donations will help our small charity to continue to offer cost effective repairs across our community and will support us to open new Repair Cafes in the coming months.”
